Jurassic Park™ Builder 4.9.0

Dino Freemium

Ever since I saw Jurassic Park in theater in 1993, I longed for a video game that could produce the same thrills. Some years later I got to play Trespasser, and even if that game was missing a few years of development, I trudged through the entire story and savored every moment, including the instance when I shot myself in the face while climbing some stairs.

Jurassic Park Builder

Does Jurassic Park Builder reach a similar level of excitement? In short, no. Jurassic Park Builder is a light freemium "game" featuring a simple economic model and 3D dinosaurs. The latter is the most eye-catching part of the game. While the environment and props are nicely drawn, they become somewhat pixelated when zooming in, while the dinosaur models retain their sharpness at all times.

Gameplay wise, there's not much to talk about the economy of JP Builder. You invest money in discovering DNA, building paddocks and feeding your hatched dinosaurs. Dinosaur exhibits, as well as other props and buildings, generate gold, which you reinvest in growing the park.

Surprisingly, your dinosaurs do not require food to survive, but only to be upgraded into more popular exhibits. Once they reach a certain level, you will need to perform some genome study before upgrading any further. You also conduct DNA studies to discover new species. Every time you clear a part of the forest, you will also find an amber specimen, which is the key for a new dinosaur.

Decoding DNA is played like a slots game. You pay a fixed amount of coins for a chance at getting a DNA segment, though you will need to gather several sections to compile a full DNA strain.

Finally, almost every investment and improvement yields XP which advances your park level. This growth will eventually unlock new mini-games and even different park environments, such as an aquatic park for ancient marine life exhibits.

Final Thoughts

Playing Jurassic Park Builder is a moderately enjoyable activity. The dinosaurs are well animated and look good, while the economic model doesn't get too heavy, as it features only three currencies (coins and two types of food), besides the purchasable in-game cash, of course. As far as I'm concerned, I might be playing for a while, just to see the rest of the models and environments. However, I don't think Jurassic Park Builder has any real staying power once you've uncovered all the content.
